There’s nothing like becoming a parent to make you appreciative of God’s love.
In fact, you don’t need to be a parent yourself; just spend time in the company of children ages 2-16.
Do something for me…count the times in one day that you’ve got to repeat yourself to a child.
I’ve lost count.
And talk about fickle. One minute children are loving and obedient, and in a Jekyll-Hyde minute they are stubborn and disobedient.
Does any of this sound familiar?
No wonder God is referred to as our Heavenly Father. There is no better example of a parent.
God reminds us, through His Word and in our everyday experiences, of His guidelines for living our best possible lives. And like children, at times we are obedient to His teachings; many times because we want something and hope that through our good behaviour, we will earn it. (Know any children who do this?)
Other times, especially when things do not appear to be going our way, we resist His suggestions and we ignore His warnings. Sometimes we even throw tantrums and turn our backs on God.
Like a good parent however, God never treats us the way we deserve.
He gives us chance after chance to amend our attitudes; in His Word, He repeatedly reminds us of what is right and the positive rewards for making the correct choices.
Why don’t we heed the instructions of our loving Heavenly Father today?
