The Season of Giving – Day 4

Giving is meant to be an unselfish act. But our stony hearts (Ezekiel 36:26) can sometimes get in the way.

Day 4: Proverbs 3:27 NLT

“Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it is in your power to help them.”

I’ve done it. And if you’re honest with yourself, you probably have too.

You come across someone who is obviously in need of assistance, but instead of helping, you rationalize why you probably shouldn’t.

He’ll probably use it to buy alcohol or drugs.

She looks healthy enough, why doesn’t she get a job.

He looks shifty.

Doesn’t she work at…what’s she doing with her money?

Sounds familiar?

I hope not.

But let’s face it. For some of us, judging could be considered our favourite pastime.

However, God cautions us to avoid withholding assistance from others once we are in a position to help.

When it comes to giving to us, God could have chosen to treat us that way, but thankfully He didn’t.

He could have judged us and deemed us unworthy, but He didn’t.

Instead of judging, He gave.

Shouldn’t we follow His example?

So…less judging and more giving!
