Good Looks

I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into the shiny, red apple. Its juices ran down my fingers as I sliced off the skin. Round and round I went, the anticipation building with every swipe of the knife.

Wait. What’s this I see?

Blinking rapidly, I stared unbelieving.

Beneath all those layers of crisp, juicy goodness was a dark, rotten core.

My stomach plummeted, and my salivary glands dried to a standstill.

As my mind wrestled with the unexpected disappointment, I couldn’t help but wonder. Are we like that?

A beautiful exterior hiding a rotten core?

I hope not.

What does the world see?

Beautiful clothes?

Nice car?

Lovely home?

Sky-rocketing career?

Nothing wrong with those things in general.

But could they be hiding something?

What does the heart show?

Is it one that’s been transformed by God?

Are people invited to your home to share a meal?

Will someone in need of a lift, get to ride in your car?

Does your family experience your love in your home?

Are you able to help someone get their start in life through your influence at your job?

If the answer is no friends, we might be able to fool the world, but even worse we are fooling ourselves.

God reminds us in 1 Samuel 16:7 (NKJV), “…For the Lord doesn’t see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

To sum it up, does the world see God’s love manifested in you?

If the answer is yes, then that is truly beautiful!
