A stronghold is defined as a place that has been fortified so as to protect it against attack. You may also know it as a fort or fortress. A place built to defend in times of battle.

Many times it can feel like we’re just the opposite.

We are battered on every side; sometimes simultaneously; other times consecutively.

The car breaks down, the refrigerator stops working, ill health creeps in, the children are defiant, more responsibilities are piled on you at work and the list goes on.

During these periods distrust, disappointment and depression can set in which can lead to feeling isolated from God.

But, it’s a new year!

And we do not need to repeat the mistakes of the past.

Yes, the troubles of this life will still be there, but God can fortify us; can strengthen us so that we can meet life’s challenges head-on. (Ephesians 6:12)

Sure, we may get bruised.

Yes, we may even get knocked down.

But with God’s help, we’ll be able to bounce back; to get back on our feet.

No fortress is built in a day and neither will our faith.

To be fortified, we will have to allow God to work on us daily.

It will take time to build the walls which can withstand the enemy’s fiery darts. (Ephesians 6:16)

The canons which can blow the enemy’s temptations to bits will need to be constructed. (Psalm 119:11)

Consequently, God will require our full cooperation.

Developing a prayer life and spending time in His Word are just a couple of the materials we must gather for fortification to take place.

It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it.

Friend, life can be hard. But God offers us a way to get through it.

Will you take Him up on it?
