It is #ThrowbackThursday so we’re going to talk about first loves.
No, it is not what you’re thinking.
I am not asking you to walk down memory lane, pining over the one that got away.
I am talking about when you first found God. You know the feeling I’m talking about?
That bowled-over, awestruck, humbled feeling that God, creator of the whole universe, cared enough about you to send His only son to the cross, just to redeem you back to Him.
Truly, “Greater love has no one than this…” John 15:13 NIV
Now be honest, do you still feel the same?
Are you still enamoured with Jesus?
Like any relationship teetering on the brink of breakdown, there are things that can be done to redeem it.
Here are 4 quick tips:
1. Consistently spend quality time together. Pray, read His Word and listen for His response.
2. Make life decisions together; don’t ask for His advice then ignore it.
3. Be a good listener; God has a purpose for each one of us, but we will never know it unless we actively try to find out what it is.
4. Recall the good times. In every relationship there will be struggles, but in the difficult times, it is good to remind yourself of the better times. Consider your journey together – where you’ve been and where you are today.
Friends, relationships take work, and our relationship with God is no different.
If we’re feeling a bit distant from Him today, it is us who would have turned our backs. He is right where we left Him; still waiting with arms outstretched, to welcome us back.
Remember, “We love because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19 NIV.
