As I grasp the shower curtain in one hand and the bottle of bathroom cleaner in the next, I am resolute in my fight against grime.
I cannot stand the sight of a dirty shower curtain (talking specifically about the bottom here). It grosses me out!
I know, I know. It’s the law of Science really. We shower daily, ergo soap scum will build up over time. Unless, I implement a plan of attack against it.
As I spray whatever chemical concoction I am depending on to help me beat back grime, I can’t help but wonder.
How different is it with sin?
Every day we face a world filled with filth. Unseemly entertainment, loose conversations and unhealthy food are just a few examples.
What measures have we taken to ensure that it doesn’t stick to us?
I spray daily because the consequences otherwise fill me with disgust.
Does the sight of dirt even disgust us as Christians? Or have we become sort of comfortable around it?
A daily dose of God will ensure there is no build up of that dirt in our lives. “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
Psalms 51:10 KJV
Spending quality time with God, on a daily basis, will help to build up our resistance. When we allow ourselves to “sprayed” by Him daily, the very appearance of grime should repel us.
In fact, just like I diligently spray the bottom of my shower curtain daily as well as the tiles on which it rests, we need God to disinfect every aspect of our lives.
Letting Him into some parts while leaving other parts “hidden” won’t work. Eventually, the contamination will spread.
Now, have I grossed you out enough to do something about this?
I sincerely hope so.
