In the Blink of an Eye

It only takes seconds.

In a split second, life can change.

A sudden, blinding headache; an unexpected diagnosis. And the whole trajectory of your life changes.

In the blink of an eye.

It is so easy to get caught up in the busyness of this life.

But at what cost?

We are so busy going that we sometimes forget who keeps us going.

When life is going well, we can become overconfident. We forget upon whom our entire existence depends. We begin to rely on ourselves.

Yet the moment our life changes, headed in the other direction, we instantly recognize our need for divine intervention in our lives.

No one likes to feel used.

Like we’re only needed when things are not going well.

So why do we treat God like that?

Isaiah reminds us that we are nothing without the breath of God in our bodies.

Jeremiah reminds us, “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed…”
Lamentations 3:22a KJV

So, how do we forget so easily?

Well, we have an enemy whose goal is to keep us distracted; to draw our attention away from God. And we fall for his tricks.

But, “…what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” Mark 8:36 KJV

At the end, these earthly things are temporary. Our time on this earth is temporary.

What will endure to the end is the relationship we would have had with God while on this earth.

And like any human one, our relationship with God needs nurturing. Neglect it and it will die.

Today, begin to cultivate the habit of spending time with God.

Spend time in His Word.

Spend time in prayer.

Spend time in joyful praise for all that He has done and is continuing to do for you.

While we still have time, let us do what we know we ought to.
