Lately, I’ve seen several comedic memes about the 2nd half of this year. Many made me smile.
But underneath the funny exterior lies the collective fear and anxiety the world has over what the remainder of the year may bring.
4-5 months ago, we didn’t know that we would still be here. 4-5 years ago, we didn’t know that we would still be here.
The point is regardless of what is happening in the world, our existence depends wholly and solely upon God. “… the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.” Job 33:4 KJV
Therefore, as believers, we should not fear the future because whether we are alive, above the dirt, or resting 6ft under, our future is secured because God has told us so. Like David, we can say, “So we will not be afraid, even if the earth is shaken and mountains fall into the ocean depths; even if the seas roar and rage, and the hills are shaken by the violence.” Psalm 46:2-3 GNT
It is natural for us to get frightened from time to time. But our temporary fright should not lead us into a state of permanent fear.
We ought to quickly remind ourselves that we trust not in men, but in the great God of the universe. “When I am afraid, O Lord Almighty, I put my trust in you.” Psalm 56:3 GNT
So today is the start of the 2nd half of 2020…embrace it; be thankful. Many people did not live to see this day.
Life may not be exactly how we’d planned, but we are still alive.
And once there is life…there is hope. “But my trust is in you, O Lord; you are my God.” Psalm 31:14 GNT
