Jehovah Shammah – The Lord is There

“Thank You, loving Father, for watching over all seasons of my life. Help me to trust in You and enjoy the life You’ve given me. ~Our Daily Bread~”

As I read the prayer above, I couldn’t help but remember the opening line and title of the hymn “Through all the Changing Scenes of Life”.

I simply cannot imagine a time when God wasn’t with me. Even when I wasn’t aware of His presence, He was always there; every step of the way.

When I began high school 32 years ago…He was there.

When I stepped into my first class with the label “teacher”, 20 years ago, He was there.

When I found out I was pregnant days before my in vitro appointment, He was there.

When months later, I tried to wrap my head around the overwhelming responsibility for the tiny human in my arms, He was there.

I could fill pages of my life’s experiences and the end would always be the same. God was there.

Through every season, challenge and obstacle, in the good times and in the bad ones, God has been there for me.

So how can I doubt Him now?

If He has been with me throughout my life thus far, why would that suddenly stop?

Sure, life has changed. But God hasn’t.

We do not know what is around the next minute or the next corner. But we can be assured that God is with us, and nothing takes Him by surprise.

Because the Bible tells us, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified…for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Dueteronomy 3:16

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

“…And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20
