These week we will be looking at the relationship between The Good Shepherd and His sheep.
What are the main responsibilities of a shepherd?
1. To protect or defend his flock.
2. To guide his flock.
3. To provide for the physical needs of his flock.
Let us begin by looking at the pronoun his. It is a possessive pronoun used to show belonging or ownership. The sheep belong to the shepherd. They are not wandering around aimlessly on their own.
In the same way God is The Good Shepherd. When we enter into a relationship with God, we belong to Him.
Psalm 23 begins, “The Lord is my shepherd…”
Notice another posessive pronoun – my. The Lord has made Himself available to you and to me…if we accept Him, He can be our shepherd too.
David was clear about whose He was. He was also sure of what God meant to him.
